DO NOT DO MERRY-GO-ROUND HOMEWORK

1. setting
2. grinning

Opps! Wednesday's missing post...

I forgot to update my blog on Wednesday. I was a little under the weather, as I am sure your child may have let you know. I tend to get bad migraines, but they only happen once every three or four months. Unfortunately, my headaches are usually accompanied by narrowed vision, sensitivity to sound, high fever, and nausea. Fun! I do my best not to miss school, but that also means your children sometimes have to deal with a sick teacher....

Math: Standard Notation worksheet (both sides)
Language Arts: Vocabulary Sentences (with context clues)

Every Wednesday, I will give the students a short math quizzes (5 questions) to assess the students' understanding of the standards covered in class that week. If the students miss more than one out of five problems, they will be given some extra work to assist their understanding of the concept.

Homework for Sept. 17 , 2009

Math: Identify whether each number is a prime or composite. A prime number is defined as a number that is only divisible by one and itself, for example 3, 5, 7, etc... A composite is a number that has more than one factor.
Language Arts: Complete the vocabulary packet (crossword and word search.) Study for the vocabulary quiz* on Friday.
Other: If your child would like to participate in the student council election, they must return a signed permission slip by Monday, September 21st.
Don't forget to sign and review your child's homework packet.

* Every Friday we will have a vocabulary quiz. The students will be asked to correctly spell the words (1 point per word) and to write a sentence with context clues (1 point per sentence.) Context clues provide the reader with a hint as to the meaning of the word.

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Homework for Sept. 15, 2009

Math: Finish the Eratosthenes' Sieve (a magical method for finding prime numbers) and the Puzzling Numbers Crossword (all numbers should be written in standard form)
Language Arts: Write the definitions for each word in your own words (not dictionary definitions) and complete the CLOZE sentences (fill in the blanks)

Back to School Night

You are cordially invited to Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 10, 2009 from 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM.

Thank you,
Miss Klein

Monday's Homework

Language Arts: None
Math: Side B of the Place Value Worksheet

All students are required to read for 25 minutes a night. Each night, your child should complete their Reading Log. They are to write a short summary of what they read that evening (at least three sentences.) In the beginning of the year, I will check the Reading Logs daily. It is important that students finish the books they begin rather than reading little bits and pieces of different texts each night. When students complete a book, they will be asked to complete a red recommendation card (similar to the cards you might encounter at Barnes & Noble or Border's.) In addition, students will be required to complete six formal book reports over the course of the school year. The first book report will be due in mid-October and will be a "brochure."

Welcome!

Welcome to Miss Klein's Homework Blog!

Every evening, I will do my best to post the nightly homework. Don't forget, in addition to the assigned work, children are required to read for at least 25 minutes per evening and complete their Reading Logs nightly. On Mondays, I will post the vocabulary words for the week. In addition, I will try to post information about class projects, upcoming events, classroom news, and fun links that will assist your child with their homework.

Cheers,
Miss Klein
