Vocabulary - Homophones

This week we will be reviewing homophones since I continue to see confusion between words such as their, they're, and there in the students' writing. A homophone is a word that sounds like another word (same pronunciation), but has a different meaning, spelling, and/or word origin. Below is a list of the words we will be covering this week. The words highlighted in red are the words the students will be tested on this Friday.

very / vary
weather / whether
board / bored
chews / choose
they're / there / their
hire / higher
berry / bury
cellar / seller
flour / flower
desert / dessert
metal / medal
aloud / allowed
merry / marry
