Inauguration Day!!!!!

Greetings,

I can't describe the feeling that overcame me as I sat in the auditorium with my class this morning. I have never been a fan of politics and I am now looking forward to a time of change. I am eager to follow the news and see if President Barack Obama will make good on his promises. I actually became a little teary-eyed as I watched the first president from an ethnically mixed family take office. It is a reflection of the vast changes in the American family and in society at large. We are no longer black or white, but a united people.

Cheers,
Miss Klein

Language Arts: Respond to the following writing prompt...

Please watch and reflect on the inauguration coverage today. Describe a memory that you will have of this special day that you would like to share with future generations.

Carefully read the description of each of the three projects. Review the required checklist for the project you choose. In order to receive a good score, you must thoroughly complete each item on the checklist. The final project should be neat and organized; it should look like a final copy. Sloppy or messy work will not be accepted (work should be done in pen and not pencil.)

Choose one project to complete:
  1. Informational Research Report
  2. Informational Poster
  3. Annotated and Illustrated Timeline

  • Name of the explorer
  • The explorer’s country of origin (Whom did he/she explore for?)
  • Important dates (When was the explorer born? When did the explorer die?)
  • Area of exploration (Where did they go? What was their route?)
  • Explain the aims, obstacles, and accomplishments of the explorer
  • Reason why they chose to explore/colonize the world

Choice Two: Create a poster about the Explorer. On your poster you must include:

  • A labeled map which traces the route of exploration
  • A flag of the explorers country of origin
  • A picture of the explorer
  • An annotated timeline with important dates in the explorer’s life
  • A short explanation of the aims, obstacles, and accomplishments of the explorer
  • A list of the reasons why they chose to explore/colonize the world
  • Includes a bibliography which sites the source of your information (see attached)

Choice Three: An annotated and illustrated timeline of the important events in the explorer’s life. On the timeline you must include:

  • The important dates in the explorer’s life
  • A picture for each important date listed on the timeline
  • An explanation why each of the dates included is important
  • A bibliography which sites the source of your information (see attached)
Among the important dates, the following information must be included:
  • The explorer’s country of origin (Whom did he/she explore for?)
